So those kinds of players don't have to deal with them if they don't want to The bosses that DO require gear, can be optional. FORCING the player to get the right gear can be annoying for those who don't like gathering those resources. Optional side bosses that do require prep AND skillĪ sweet spot is to make it so you can beat bosses without preparation if you're good enough. I want dodge mechanics, blocking and parrying attacks, jump attacks. So low skill floor, and high skill ceiling. Maybe a hookshot, maybe boots that allow double jumping, or a hammer that can smash walls and stun enemies, or an invisibility cloak.Īlso, combat should be relatively easy to pick up, but difficult to master. Unique items that open up the game in new ways should also be rewarded for doing difficult things, like the grappling hooks in terraria. Like you can find a zombie brute in a pack of normal zombies, or something. I think it'd be nice that, in addition to normal and boss enemies, there'd be occasional normal enemies that are extra powerful.

Maybe in order to even access the boss you need to craft a rare key or visit a special dungeon first. Or a dragon which can only be damaged by a specific type of arrow. Perhaps a fire-based boss will need ice weapons and water in order to defeat. Bosses need to be challenging and require preparation, but not full-blown mob arenas like in my experience in terraria. Potions and food need to be more important that in minecraft, kinda like in terraria. Maybe you have decreased health unless you eat two meals a day? Maybe you can see beeter for mining by taking a potion. Potions and food and buffs should be a lot more important and utilized regularly. I think Hytale should be at it's easiest, you die if you're not paying attention or doing something stupid, like getting swarmed by mobs or something, but at it's hardest, genuinely challenging. I hope they don't just handhold and clearly say 'You're not strong enough for this area yet' but instead encourage the player to go there and try it before realising it's much higher difficulty than they're equipped for. Like if I spawn and see a giant ominous Scarak nest and it's obvious that it's higher level but I'd never know how much higher level until I actually go there and try fight a scarak. I hope Hytale promotes a learning through experience type gameplay where you learn things by actually doing or at least through visuals. Like I need to select the right gear for the fight I'm going up against or pick the right buffs for each boss. I'd also like to see gear and buffs being an important part of fights. So for the hardest dungeons you're not gonna just be able to go in and kill the boss first time but you're gonna need to actually fight the boss first to learn its weaknesses and attack patterns and then you can go back and try and kill it Dark Souls style. Bosses with very strong attacks but also certain attack patterns that you can learn. I would potentially like some of the harder bosses to be ones you're almost definitely gonna have to fight more than once.
